Da Nang Airport Immigration on Arrival: What to Have Ready (2026)
At Da Nang airport immigration, have a valid passport with at least 6 months left and one blank page, plus a visa, an e-visa printout or an exemption. A visa on arrival needs the Approval Letter issued before the trip. Cash over VND 15,000,000 or USD 5,000 must be declared.
On this page
At Da Nang International Airport, immigration comes down to your entry document. Have an e-visa result printed from the portal, an Approval Letter for a visa on arrival, or a passport covered by a visa exemption.
The passport is the one item every case shares: valid at least 6 months beyond the planned stay, with a blank visa page.
Which case are you?
- If you arrive on an e-visa -> the e-visa holder checks and prints the result on the e-visa portal with the electronic file code. You must still meet the same entry conditions and use a border gate the Government decides. Full rules: Vietnam e-visa.
- If your passport is visa-exempt -> you enter on the passport alone, and a unilateral exemption needs at least 6 months of passport validity left. Country lists: Vietnam visa exemption countries.
- If you arrive on a visa on arrival -> the Approval Letter must be issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department before the trip. The fee is then paid at the airport’s visa-on-arrival office.
- If you carry cash above the limits -> cash over VND 15,000,000 or USD 5,000 must be declared at the customs foreign currency report desk. The cash and gold declaration guide has the thresholds and the fines.
- If the queue is long -> the airport publishes a Wait Time Dashboard with estimated waiting times for security and immigration. A private provider sells an arrival lane at an advertised 35 USD per traveller, plus 11.6% taxes and fees.
Still open: whether a phone copy of the e-visa is accepted at the counter. Whether an onward ticket is checked for nationalities whose exemption has no ticket condition. Who pays the return flight of a refused traveller, and how a refusal is appealed - the immigration control unit at Da Nang International Airport decides refusals.
What to have ready at the counter

The airport’s own arrival guide puts the passport rule first: valid for at least 6 months beyond the planned stay, with at least one blank visa page.
Article 20 of Law 47/2014/QH13, as replaced by Law 51/2019/QH14, allows entry with a passport or international travel document and a visa, unless the law exempts the traveller. A foreigner entering under a unilateral visa exemption needs a passport valid at least 6 months.
E-visa holders
An e-visa is used with the electronic file code: the holder checks and prints the e-visa result on the e-visa portal. An e-visa holder must meet the same entry conditions and enter through an international border gate the Government decides.
The automatic lane
Only Vietnamese passport holders may use the automatic immigration lane on arrival at Terminal 2. The airport says the lane is subject to a number of conditions.
Queues, and the fast track option
The airport publishes a Wait Time Dashboard with estimated waiting times for security and immigration.
One provider, Fast Track Vietnam, advertises an arrival fast-track lane at 35 USD per traveller. It is a private service: the company states it is not affiliated with the Vietnamese government or immigration authorities, and it does not issue visas.
| Term | The provider’s advertised terms |
|---|---|
| Arrival lane price | 35 USD per traveller |
| Taxes and fees | 11.6%, on top of the listed price |
| Booking | must be booked and paid before the flight |
| Refund | offered if the provider is notified at least 24 hours before the flight |
The provider’s own 10-20 minute figure, instead of 1-2 hour queues, is advertising.
Is an onward ticket required?
The general entry conditions name a passport or international travel document and a visa, unless the law exempts the traveller. They include no ticket condition.
Two nationality-specific exemptions do add one. Philippine passports get 21 days with a return or onward air ticket. Singaporean passports get 30 days with the same ticket plus proof they can pay for the stay.
The full country-by-country terms are in Vietnam visa exemption countries.
If entry is refused
Entry can be refused when the conditions in Article 20 clause 1 are not met. The head of the immigration control unit decides a refusal in those cases.
A foreigner deported from Vietnam less than 3 years ago is refused entry as well. A foreigner forced to leave Vietnam within the previous 6 months is refused entry too.
After the stamp: bags, buses and taxis
Taxis are at the airport 24 hours a day, including late-night and early-morning arrivals. Bus stops at Terminal 2 are at columns 7 and 8.
The ride into the city is in Da Nang airport to the city. The paperwork that follows - a SIM card, residence registration, cash - is in the first week in Da Nang checklist.
