Digital Nomad Da Nang: Visa, Tax, Coworking, Internet

Vietnamese law requires a foreigner's activities in Vietnam to match the purpose of their entry. An e-visa lasts a maximum of 90 days. Presence of 183 days or more in a calendar year makes you a tax resident. Coworking Danang lists a daily pass at 200k VND.

Whether your remote job falls under these rules is open (see the “Not confirmed” box). That question is covered in Can You Work Remotely in Vietnam on a Tourist Visa?.

Length of stay

The two common routes for a stay of one to six months are an e-visa and a visa exemption.

E-visa

The Vietnam e-visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days, for single or multiple entries. Full details are in Vietnam E-Visa: Eligibility, Cost and How Long It Lasts.

E-visa holders in Vietnam may be eligible to apply for a new visa if an authority, organisation or individual in Vietnam invites or guarantees them. The portal frames this as a new visa, not an extension of the e-visa. See How to Extend a Visa in Da Nang.

Visa exemption

Resolution 44/NQ-CP gives citizens of the countries it lists 45 days of stay from the date of entry, for any passport type and any purpose of entry. All entry conditions must still be met. Check your country in Vietnam Visa Exemption Countries in 2026.

Staying longer

If you leave and re-enter to reset the clock, read Visa Run from Da Nang first. Fines for staying past your date are in Vietnam Visa Overstay Fine.

Tax: the 183-day test

A resident individual is a person present in Vietnam for 183 days or more within a calendar year, or within 12 consecutive months from the first day of presence. Days of presence decide this.

How the days are counted:

  • Arrival day counts as one day and departure day counts as one day.
  • Entry and exit on the same day count together as a single day.
  • Dates are based on the immigration authority’s certification on your passport.

A rented home matters too. Having a rented home to live in, with lease terms of 183 days or more within the tax year, is also a condition for resident status. A hotel, guesthouse, motel or hostel stay counts as a rented home to live in. Renting in more than one place is included.

The Personal Income Tax Law sets five progressive brackets.

Bracket Per year (million VND) Per month (million VND) Rate
1 Up to 120 Up to 10 5%
2 Over 120 to 360 Over 10 to 30 10%
3 Over 360 to 720 Over 30 to 60 20%
4 Over 720 to 1,200 Over 60 to 100 30%
5 Over 1,200 Over 100 35%

The brackets and rates above come from the Personal Income Tax Law.

How these apply to pay from abroad is in Vietnam Income Tax for Remote Workers Paid Abroad. The day count is explained in Vietnam Tax Residency: The 183-Day Test.

Home internet and SIM

FPT lists its Internet GIGA plan at VND 195,000 per month, with 300 Mbps download and 300 Mbps upload, for 10-15 connected devices. FPT says the installation cost is usually VND 299,000 and no deposit is needed in advance. FPT adds that the fee can vary slightly by area or promotion.

FPT’s FAQ says foreign customers need a passport and a valid temporary or permanent residence paper. Prices and providers are in Home Internet in Da Nang.

For a mobile SIM, a foreign national registering subscriber information must present a passport that is still valid for use in Vietnam. Online registration applies only to the first 3 subscriber numbers on one identity document. See Vietnam SIM Card Registration for Foreigners.

Renting and registering your stay

A foreigner staying temporarily in Vietnam must declare the stay through the person managing the accommodation, to the ward police where the accommodation is located. The accommodation must ask you to show your passport and residence-related papers before agreeing to let you stay.

Under Circular 87/2026/TT-BCA, the electronic declaration must be filed as soon as the foreigner arrives at the accommodation. A foreigner who does not hand over a passport or Vietnam-residence papers for the declaration is fined VND 3,000,000 to 5,000,000.

For a lease, the party ending it unilaterally must give the other side at least 30 days’ notice, unless the parties agree otherwise. Read Rental Contract in Vietnam, Rental Deposit in Vietnam and Temporary Residence Registration in Vietnam.

Cash and health cover

At a BIDV ATM, a Visa or Mastercard issued abroad pays 3% of the amount with a minimum of VND 50,000, excluding VAT and any fee your own bank charges. Other fee and limit details are in ATM Fees and Limits in Vietnam for a Foreign Card.

Mandatory health insurance covers a foreign employee on a fixed-term contract of 12 months or more with an employer in Vietnam. Insurance and hospital details are in Can Foreigners Get Health Insurance (BHYT) in Vietnam? and Hospitals and Clinics for Foreigners in Da Nang.

Not confirmed: Whether remote work for a foreign employer on a tourist visa or e-visa counts as work that needs permission is not confirmed. If your plan depends on it, ask the Da Nang Immigration Office or a Vietnamese lawyer before you book.
