Vietnam Investor Visa DT1 to DT4: Terms and Fees (2026)

Vietnam grades investors into four symbols, mostly by capital: DT1 from VND 100 billion, DT2 from VND 50 billion, DT3 from VND 3 billion and DT4 below that. Visas run up to 5, 5, 3 and 1 years; cards up to 10, 5 and 3 years, and none for DT4.

The investor symbols are DT1 to DT4, and the more capital you put into a Da Nang company, the longer your visa and card run. Whatever an agency calls its “golden visa” package, the legal ground for an investor’s stay is one of these four symbols.

DT1 to DT4: what each capital band gets you

Find your contributed capital (von gop) in the table first, because it sets the symbol and the visa and card terms. There is a second route into the top two: investing in an incentive sector or area decided by the Government also qualifies for DT1, and investing in an encouraged sector decided by the Government qualifies for DT2.

Symbol Contributed capital Visa up to Card up to
DT1 VND 100 billion or more 5 years 10 years
DT2 VND 50 billion to under 100 billion 5 years 5 years
DT3 VND 3 billion to under 50 billion 3 years 3 years

Since 1 July 2026, the foreigners who qualify for a card include DT1, DT2 and DT3 but not DT4.

If your passport is close to expiry, the card is set at least 30 days shorter than the passport’s remaining validity, so renewing the passport first can buy you a longer card. For the symbol list across all visas, see Vietnam visa types.

Who files the visa request: your sponsor, not you

You need an agency, organisation or individual in Vietnam to invite or sponsor you, and that sponsor sends the written visa request directly to the immigration authority. If your sponsor is a company, it first sends the authority a one-time notice with a certified copy of its establishment licence and a document introducing its seal and its authorised person’s signature, updated whenever those details change.

Your own side is the investment papers: a visa applicant who enters to invest must have papers proving the investment under the Law on Investment, and the one-time company notice has to go in before the company invites you. Which exact papers the Da Nang office wants is in the Not confirmed box.

Step by step: from visa to card

  1. Gather papers proving your investment in Vietnam under the Law on Investment.
  2. If your sponsor is a company, it sends the one-time notice described above.
  3. Your sponsor sends the written visa request directly to the immigration authority.
  4. The authority answers the sponsor within 5 working days of receiving the request and notifies the Vietnamese visa-issuing office abroad.
  5. Your sponsor tells you to collect the visa at that office abroad.
  6. Once you are in Vietnam, your sponsor files the card dossier at the immigration office where the sponsoring organisation is based, in person at the provincial immigration office or online. After an online filing, the passport goes by public postal service to the receiving office. The dossier holds the sponsor’s written request, the declaration form with a photo attached, your passport and papers proving your case.
  7. The statutory processing time is 5 working days from a complete dossier, and the card carries a symbol matching your visa. The applicant collects the result in person at the provincial immigration office, or by post on request.

What the visa and card cost

Fees follow the term, not the symbol, so a longer visa or card costs more. Say your DT3 visa is issued as a multiple-entry visa for more than 2 years: that tier is US$155, and a card valid over 2 to 5 years is another US$155, so budget for both. The fee is collected in US dollars or in dong converted at the rate the circular points to.

Document Fee
Single-entry visa, any validity US$25
Multiple-entry visa, over 180 days to 1 year US$135
Multiple-entry visa, over 1 to 2 years US$145
Multiple-entry visa, over 2 to 5 years US$155
Card valid up to 2 years US$145
Card valid over 2 to 5 years US$155
Card valid over 5 to 10 years US$165

These are the figures in Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC, which took effect on 1 April 2026.

If you are refused or you decline the result after paying, the fee is not refunded. A lost, damaged or expired document that must be reissued is charged as a new one. The full list of fees is in Vietnam immigration fees in 2026.

Already in Vietnam on another visa? Check this rule first

Where you collect the visa depends on where you are: from abroad, you collect it at the Vietnamese visa-issuing office abroad after the sponsor’s request is answered. Inside Vietnam, a visa’s purpose cannot be converted except in four cases, and the first is holding documents that prove you are an investor or the representative of a foreign organisation investing in Vietnam.

So collect your investment papers before you ask anyone to convert a tourist or business stamp. If you hold a business visa today, the DN1 and DN2 guide explains what that visa covers.

Spouse and children: a TT card for DT1 to DT3 families

A spouse or a child under 18 of a foreigner issued a DT1, DT2 or DT3 visa can get a TT card. A TT card is valid for up to 3 years, and its fee follows the card’s term, per card, at the same rates as in the fee table. DT4 is not on that list, so a DT4 family needs another route. The filing steps and fees for TT are in the dependant visa guide.

Do you need a work permit as an investor?

A foreigner working in Vietnam must hold a work permit issued by the competent state agency, except in the cases listed in Labor Code Article 154. If you run the company you invest in, check whether you fall in one of these exempt groups:

  • An owner or capital-contributing member of a limited liability company, with VND 3 billion or more contributed.
  • A chairman or board member of a joint-stock company, with VND 3 billion or more contributed.
  • The person responsible for setting up a commercial presence.

For these groups you do not apply for an exemption certificate, but the employer must notify the competent agency where the worker is expected to work at least 3 working days before the worker starts. An employer that does not notify, notifies late or notifies incompletely is fined VND 1 million to VND 3 million.

A foreign worker without a permit or exemption certificate, or using an expired one, is fined VND 15 million to VND 25 million. In Da Nang, the Department of Home Affairs (So Noi vu) handles work permits and exemption certificates citywide. For the full rules, see the work permit guide.

Where to file in Da Nang

The sponsor can file in person at the provincial immigration office of the police or online, and in Da Nang that is the immigration office at 78 Le Loi Street, Hai Chau. It is open Monday to Saturday, 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., and closed on Sunday.

Common questions

Is there a separate golden visa for investors in Vietnam?

Investor status runs through the four symbols DT1, DT2, DT3 and DT4, which differ by capital. DT1 and DT2 can also be reached by investing in a sector the Government designates.

Can an investor file the visa request personally?

No. The agency, organisation or individual in Vietnam that invites or sponsors you sends the written request directly to the immigration authority.

Does a DT4 holder get a temporary residence card?

DT4 is not on the list of symbols that qualify for a card. A DT4 visa is valid for up to 1 year.

I am already in Vietnam on another visa. Can I switch to a DT visa?

A visa's purpose cannot be converted except in four cases, and one of them is holding documents that prove you are an investor or the representative of a foreign organisation investing in Vietnam.

What if my application is refused after I pay?

If you do not qualify for the visa or document, or you refuse to accept the result, the fee already paid is not refunded.

How long does the card take once the dossier is in?

The statutory processing time is 5 working days from the date a complete dossier is received.

Do I need a work permit if I own the company?

A foreigner working in Vietnam must hold a work permit unless an exemption applies. An owner or capital-contributing member of a limited liability company with VND 3 billion or more is one of the exempt groups.
