For a swim in Da Nang, head to My Khe, the long public beach that most people mean when they say “Da Nang beach”. It is the liveliest beach in the city, so come at sunrise if you want space, and keep the sea for swimming time on the sign: 5:00-18:30 from October to March.

Go at first light: the sand is cool, the beach is quiet and the hotels behind you catch the sunrise.

My Khe Beach: hours, prices and the basics

Swimming and lifeguards follow the notice on the sand, and the beach board sets small fixed prices for showers, chairs and parking. The table gives the numbers you will use.

Swimming time, October-March 5:00-18:30

These are the beach board’s list prices, per chair, per vehicle and per use; chairs still cost 40k each in October 2026.

Swim only inside the marked areas, where lifeguards watch the water. The flags, rip currents and what to do if you are pulled out have their own page: read Is it safe to swim in Da Nang? before your first swim.

Where My Khe starts and ends

My Khe is one stretch of a sand chain that runs almost 60 km from the foot of Hai Van Pass to Non Nuoc, so you will not see a gate or a sign where it ends. The city’s beach board still splits the central part into named bathing beaches, with Pham Van Dong beach and My Khe beach as separate entries. The local press names the central bathing beaches as Pham Van Dong, My Khe, T20 and My An.

The Danang Beach sign stands at the Pham Van Dong end of the strip; it is an easy meeting point.

The easiest landmark is Pham Van Dong beach, at the junction of Pham Van Dong Street and Vo Nguyen Giap Street, alongside East Sea Park (Cong Vien Bien Dong). Pham Van Dong, My Khe and Sao Bien are the big, busy beaches whose facilities meet demand, so expect showers and stalls there.

Showers, toilets, sunbeds and water sports

The board runs 10 fresh-water shower blocks across the city’s tourist beaches, and there are 16 public toilets across the same tourist-beach strip. A shower costs VND 2,000 per person per use. Leaving clothes, shoes and a hat with the attendant costs VND 5,000 per item each time. There are plenty of shower spots at fair prices.

Sunbeds sit in rows above the waterline; agree the price before you lie down.

Chairs and drinks come from organised stall teams: 22 teams with 118 households rent umbrellas and chairs and sell drinks on the city’s tourist beaches. The board’s list gives VND 40,000 for a sunbed, VND 20,000 for a seat and VND 30,000 for a young coconut. Chairs still went for 40k each in October 2026, so agree the price before you sit down if a stall asks for more.

Banana boats and parasailing run from the sand. Operators post their prices on boards: in October 2026 one listed parasailing at VND 700,000 for one person and VND 1,000,000 for two, per round, and a banana boat for up to five people at VND 1,000,000. Compare two boards before you book.

Who My Khe suits

  • Sunrise walkers. Swimming time starts at 5:00 in the cooler months, and November sunrise comes between 5:43 and 5:58 am.
  • Families who want lifeguards nearby. The swimming areas are clearly marked and watched by lifeguards.
  • People who want water sports. Parasailing and banana boats leave from the sand, with prices on boards.
  • Skip it if you want a quiet beach: My Khe is the busiest beach in Da Nang.
  • Skip it if your trip is built around long swims in November: storms can stop swimming for days, as Storm No. 13 did in 2025.

How to get to My Khe

Ask your Grab driver for Pham Van Dong beach, at the Pham Van Dong and Vo Nguyen Giap junction, because it is the easiest point to find and has East Sea Park beside it. For fares and apps, see getting around Da Nang. Open My Khe Beach in Google Maps (opens in a new tab).

If you ride, the city’s beach parking price is VND 4,000 for a motorbike and VND 20,000 for a car of up to 16 seats by day. Day rates apply from 6:00 to before 22:00, and later than that the price rises to VND 5,000 and VND 25,000. Keep the parking ticket until you leave.

When to go to My Khe

Go early. Swimming time on the sign is 4:30-19:00 from April to September and 5:00-18:30 from October to March, and sunrise is the coolest, emptiest hour of the day. Sunrise times through the year:

Month Sunrise
January 6:14-6:18 am
April 5:23-5:42 am
July 5:18-5:28 am
October 5:37-5:43 am
November 5:43-5:58 am
December 5:58-6:14 am

From November the sea turns rough more often. On 6 November 2025 the board stopped swimming and water sports from 13:00 until further notice because of Storm No. 13, and the beach was busy again a few days later. On big-wave days in January 2026 the beach stayed open, with lifeguards posted close to the water to steer swimmers. In 2025 the city also put up no-swimming signs where the shore had eroded, so obey any sign before you go in.

For the months to aim for, read Da Nang weather by month and the typhoon season guide.

On rough days like this, the beach stays open but the sea is for watching, not swimming.

Nearby: Son Tra, the Dragon Bridge and the night markets

My Khe sits between the Son Tra hills to the north and the Marble Mountains to the south, so it pairs easily with both. In the morning, swim at sunrise and then ride up to Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra before the heat. In the evening, rinse off and head inland to the Dragon Bridge fire show and the night markets.

For a day further south, the Marble Mountains are on the same coast road. If you are planning a longer stay, our five-day itinerary and where to live in Da Nang show how the beach fits in.
